The Lyrics
Appearing on The Today Show, environmental activist and unsuccessful media mogul Al Gore defended his sale of Current T.V. to Al-Jazeera, the Middle Eastern communications conglomerate based in the oil state of Qatar. He twice ducked host Matt Lauer's questions about the appearance of hypocrisy when such a famous opponent of fossil fuels seals a lucrative deal with oil producers. Gore merely said that he understood the criticism, disagreed with it, and then praised Al-Jazeera as a superior brand of news organization whose coverage of climate issues is "far more extensive and high-quality" than in Western media. Aside from the unmentioned concerns about Al-Jazeera's anti-American and pro-jihadist slant, Gore's lack of concern about taking money from fossil fuel magnates is utterly confounding. I wish I could compartmentalize as easily as he can. BTW, The Andrews Sisters version of this original song uses the rarely heard verse. ;D
