When the vicious winds start blowing,
and the rain is starting to fall

California’s now a slough,
in the north and the south, too.
Many of the roofs are bowing.
Why won’t this damn storm ever stall?!

California’s got inundations—
time for natation.
The flowers and bowers doomed in the drink:
Their moorings get pouring—down they sink; firehose ain’t kinked.

The sun’s dismissed; it still abates;
even nervous are ships’ mates.
Leaves are clogging storm-drain grates.
California’s overrun.

Californians are glum,
in a funk, sunken, and bummed.
Rain’s power for hours means that cars sink.
Mud’s pouring through flooring; boards ain’t chinked and start to stink.

The sun’s been kissed off for weeks straight;
let’s face it: We’re in mire straits.
Overwhelmed are the flood gates.
Californians are bummed.
