In loving memory of two of the best cats I ever had, Spot and Sumaq. The latter is still alive because there is a very good no-kill shelter in a suburb of Lima.

It was so very sad the way we said good-bye.
Thanks to our government, poor kitty had to die.
They botched the paperwork for him to move abroad,
And Spot became the cat from yesterday.
He took a plane abroad to South America,
Married a girl who had a cat, and lived it up.
But sadly, it turned out, his wife had allergies,
Sumaq became the cat from yesterday.
He misses them every night,
They've been gone for so long.
He always feels the pain that comes
When his best friends are gone.
And although he has a rabbit
That don't make his wife react,
He always wishes in his heart
That he still had his cats.
No furball in the window, no baby in his lap,
They are just memories that're never coming back.
He dreams of their returning, and it's true that one's alive,
But they'll always be the cats from yesterday.
