Disclaimer: War is serious business. Parodies aren't. The soldiers in this parody were not inspired by real soldiers, but by all those able-bodied gung-ho guys I've met, over the years, who beat their chests about how great it would be to go to war and get to kill people with cool weapons and get on the news, but somehow never manage to enlist or even visit a recruiter's office to look into it. No one knows this one?...alright...anyway, I think I heard a news article that the US Army has put out a video game that is a semi-glorified version of real army combat, that is supose to be used to try and recruit young adults into the army...I remember the reporter was interviewing a a fan of the game and the kid said something along the lines of: "Yeah, I know its a glorified version, but it has real elements in it...I know that in a war, you cant just click 'restart' and survive after a game over, but I think that I'll do well in the army...sure, I died a few times in the game, but thats just a game"......

Thanks Jeff and Billy! Not surprised that this one isn't so well known/remembered... maybe over time, it'll pick up some more votes. Billy, I hadn't heard about the recruitment game... very interesting and I think that kid's in for a rude awakening -- right about Reveille. ;)

I know the original. It came out like 20 years ago (I was in preschool at the time), but I think I heard it for the first time 5 years ago or so. Anyway, I think you did a really good job with this one, so I will vote 5 for pacing and overall; haven't decided on 4 or 5 for how funny. I'm leaning towards a 5, but when I decide, I'll place my vote. :)

I'm old enough to remember the original, too (and I always liked Slade, so I've got it on a CD here somewhere) - pacing is spot on, with some great changes for the "See chameleon" line. So, Melhi are you going to turn "Cum on feel the noize" to "Gung ho all these boys" or something similar?

Thanks Nally and Phil! Phil... hmm... it could probably work, actually. (just off the top of my head:) "Come on gung-ho boys, we've got your toys, so get riled, riled, riled...." Nally, I figured this for a forgotten oldie, so I hadn't expected anyone yours or Billy's age would have had the chance to hear it. I haven't heard it on the radio since it was on the charts, myself.. and it was never in heavy rotation, here, even then -- very cool that you both know it! Thanks again!

Well, I'm a bit older than Billy (given that two of my children submitted their first parody here over the weekend, I think that makes me quite a bit older...) - Trivia question - which Slade song was originally written with the following lyric: "Won't you buy me a rocking chair to watch the world go by/Buy me a looking glass, I'll look you in the eye"?

Phil, you young whippersnapper, you -- my oldest daughter is old enough to vote, so regardless of my chronological age or how young I feel, I'm officially ancient. (Speaking of kids, my youngest is 5, loves to tease her brother about farting and lemme tell you, she got a HUGE kick out of your kids' parody!) I'm completely stumped on the Slade trivia question -- I don't recognise that lyric, at all, but I LOVE that second line!

Thanks for the comment re kiddies' parody (you must have checked through a few to spot their header) - I've asked Chucky to enable comments on that one... I don't know, I guess that's what happens when they go and do things like this without any parental guidance ;-) - re the Slade number: what is Slade's most famous (and certainly most-repeated come certain times of year) song?

"Run Run Away" was a favorite of mine in the early days of MTV..one of the few songs with guitars imitating bagpipes that I enjoy. :) Thanks for assuring me that I am the only American who has ever heard it. Clever rhyming and pacing for this upbeat jig. 544
