became an lounge act, oh so weak, quite sickenin' to eye
when he reached forty-two years old...livin' by this creed
no wonder that his death occurred...ol' elvis went to seed

A parody, sadly, far too fit for this King. But some great transpositions in this one. Maybe, before Elvis planted that seed, someone should've told him, "Kill it before it grows."
A sad ending for a once-great talent. I recommend Warren Zevon's "Heavenly Mansions" and "Porcelain Monkey," respectively about the deification and decline of The King.
thanks michael and john....i hear ya....i loved the early elvis stuff....after the army stint....it was all bad tunes and worse movies...i always thought there was some government plan to ruin rock n roll in the 50s....the stars either went into the service, were plagued by scandal, sent to jail or crippled or killed in planes or cars....think about it !

Sir Alvin, one more tune from Elvis, Sir, that really brings tears 'Americana' to my eyes: < Dixie combo with Battle Hymn of the Republic > I believe he recorded this very late in his Vegas years, although I've never been east of Lake Michigan, this song really tugs at my heart, it's really a very moving tribute about the ~USA~
